TANDEM Technical Workshop

18 – 19 September 2024

French Alternatives Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), at Cadarache (Saint Paul-les-Durance), South of France

The TANDEM project is organising a free, open technical workshop on 18-19 September 2024 and will be held at the premises of the French Alternatives Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), at Cadarache (Saint Paul-les-Durance), in the South of France.

The technical workshop is specifically conceived for MSc and PhD students, PostDocs, young and experienced researchers and engineers that are interested in deepening their knowledge on the potential role that hybrid energy systems including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) play in the ongoing energy transition. The workshop will focus on the description of SMR non-electric applications, such as district heating, hydrogen production, sea water desalination and synthetic fuel production, and the SMR coupling with other energy sources and energy storage systems in hybrid energy systems.

Please note that, given the specificity of the technical workshop, applicants are required to have a general background in nuclear systems. The registration deadline for the workshop is 16 June 2024. The number of in-person participants will be limited to 30 people. Registrations will therefore be subject to selection by the organisers. Please note that the event will also be accessible online for those unable to attend physically.

Please be also aware that a second workshop, to complement the one at Cadarache, is planned for early 2025 at the University of Pisa in Italy, in early 2025. The workshop will be dedicated to “Modelling and optimisation tools to assess hybrid energy systems integrating nuclear reactors”.
