SUMMARY:Webinar Series: Technoeconomic Modelling & Simulation of Integrated Energy Systems
DESCRIPTION:Webinar Series: Dr. Elizabeth Worsham on ‘Technoeconomic Modelling & Simulation of Integrated Energy Systems’ on Friday 21st June 2024 at 17:00 CEST. \nDr. Elizabeth Worsham is a Systems Integration Engineer at Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls\, Idaho. Her work includes modeling and analysis of nuclear heat and power systems and economic analysis of power and product markets. Elizabeth supports the lab’s efforts decarbonize the industrial heat and power sector through integration of advanced reactors and SMRs. Specifically\, she leads the group investigating decarbonizing pulp and paper mills with nuclear energy. In addition\, Dr. Worsham supports international collaborations through the Department of State’s Foundational Infrastructure for the Responsible use of SMR Technology (FIRST) as a subject matter expert on non-electric applications for nuclear power. Elizabeth received her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (2017) and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University (2020). \nRegister here. \nThis webinar series is held in the framework of the TANDEM project in cooperation with the ENEN++ project and is organised by  the University of Pisa\, CIRTEN.

SUMMARY:TANDEM Summer School
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE\n24th June – 28th June 2024\nPolitecnico di Milano\, Lecco Campus\, Como lake\, Italy\nThe TANDEM Summer School is organised by the TANDEM project. TANDEM is a European research project funded by the European Commission focusing on the study of an integrated vision of the energy system based on the hybridisation of nuclear and renewable sources with thermal and power storage and downstream application as district heating\, hydrogen production\, etc. \nThe TANDEM International Summer School is organised at the premises of Politecnico di Milano\, in the city of Lecco – along the Como lake – in Italy from 24th June to June 28th\, 2024. The Summer School is specifically conceived for MSc and PhD students\, PostDocs\, young and experienced researchers and engineers that are interested in deepening their knowledge on the potential role that nuclear hybrid energy systems play in the ongoing energy transition. In this context\, particular attention will be devoted to explore the various advantages\, as well as the safety concerns and the techno-economic challenges\, associated with the integration of nuclear power plants with applications beyond conventional electricity generation. Participants will be provided with i) an extensive overview of the advantages and challenges of concepts of nuclear reactors producing commodities beyond power supply\, ii) a training in the use of tools and methodologies essential for designing and simulating the operation of nuclear hybrid energy systems\, iii) the quantitative skills necessary for assessing the impact of these systems within different contexts\, ranging from a local scale to the global decarbonisation of the energy system. Given the specificity of the TANDEM Summer School\, students are required to have a general background in nuclear systems and SMR technology. \nProgramme and registration details are here. Please note that no registration fees are requested to participate to the school. \nThe TANDEM Summer School organising committee: \n\nClaire Vaglio-Gaudard\, CEA – Coordinator of TANDEM project\nMarco Ricotti\, Politecnico di Milano\nStefano Lorenzi\, Politecnico di Milano\n\nThis event is supported by the ENEN2+ project (HORIZON-EURATOM-2021-NRT-01-13 101061677) founded by the European Union.
