SUMMARY:SMR Readiness and the Launch of the NEA SMR Dashboard
DESCRIPTION:OECD-NEA are launching the SMR Readiness and the Launch of the NEA SMR Dashboard will be launched on Monday\, 13 March\, 2023 at 15:00-16:30 CET. \nThe NEA SMR Dashboard (First Edition) presents analysis of the progress of SMRs around the world. Looking beyond technical feasibility and “Technology Readiness Level” (TRL)\, the NEA SMR Dashboard assesses progress in six additional dimensions: licensing\, siting\, financing\, supply chain readiness\, public engagement\, and fuel availability. It introduces new metrics by the NEA to assess meaningful progress towards deployment and commercialisation based on objective criteria and verifiable sources of information – and it shows real progress of SMR projects in markets around the world.  \nThis event will launch the first edition of the NEA SMR Dashboard\, which includes assessments for 21 SMR designs. Future editions will continue to track progress and include additional SMRs. \nPlease find more information\, event launch programme\, and registration here.

SUMMARY:Joint ELSMOR-TANDEM Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Joint ELSMOR-TANDEM workshop to be held in Brussels on the 6th and 7th of December 2022 \nThe two Horizon 2020 projects will be joining forces to organise a joint workshop to bring forward the research done in ELSMOR and to pass the torch forward to TANDEM while also giving an overview of the status of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) development in Europe. SMRs are going to be a part of the European energy system and will bring considerable opportunities to it in both power and heat production. But to realise these opportunities fully\, Europe will also have to prepare and ensure we’re ready to utilise these\ndevelopments. \nThe event will be held over 2 days at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Brussels on the 6th and 7th of December. The first day will focus on the high level messages of SMRs. What are different parties doing to drive forward nuclear policy\, what are the views of nuclear utilities and why should non-nuclear utilities or industrial users be interested in SMRs? Come join us in discussing how SMRs can support EU’s turn towards decarbonisation and what is needed for that to happen. \nThe second day (7.12) will go deeper into the results of the ELSMOR project and how to utilize the learnings from it for TANDEM over 5 different workshops. The ELSMOR project has for the past 3 years focused on analysing and evaluating the various safety aspects of SMR designs to ensure that the European nuclear community would have both the tools and the knowhow\nfor licensing these plants. TANDEM will move further from this and will study the role SMRs will have in our energy systems analysing their role and economics when it comes to the production of electricity\, heat and hydrogen while also ensuring there will be no safety related hurdles in any of these use cases. \nRegister here! \nWhat: ELSMOR-TANDEM joint workshop\n \nWhere: Brussels\, Doubletree by Hilton Hotel \nWhen 6-7.12.2022 \nEvent agenda: \n\nSpeakers for the day 1 seminar (6.12)\nYves Desbazeille – Director General of nucleareurope\n\nEuropean SMR pre-partnerships view on the future of nuclear deployment\n\n\nMatti Kattainen – Head of Nuclear Future Agenda at Fortum\n\nNuclear utility perspective on SMR feasibility\n\n\nVille Tulkki – Lead\, SMR technology at VTT and the project lead of ELSMOR\n\nAchievements of ELSMOR\n\n\nClaire Vaglio-Gaudard – Senior Expert at CEA and Project lead of TANDEM\n\nMoving forward from ELSMOR towards energy system analysis of SMRs in TANDEM\n\n\nDebbie Francis\, Nuward Design Export and International Safety Officer\, EDF\n\nPerspective of a vendor developing an SMR design\n\n\nMartina Adorni\, Nuclear Safety Specialist\, OECD-NEA\n\n OECD-NEAs work and perspective on SMRs\n\n\nSylvie Cadet-Mercier\, Commissioner\, ASN\n\nRegulators perspective on European SMR deployment\n\n\nMore to be announced!\n\nWorkshops for Day 2 (7.12) \nFurther workshop details are being prepared\, feedback on areas of interest of participants are also welcome and can be taken into account. \n\nDefence in Depth of LW-SMRs\n\n Presentations and discussion on the application of defence-in-depth principles for LW-SMRs with a focus on how issues arising from SMR concepts such as modularity of the plant and severe accident management can be treated inside the framework.\n\n\nSMR Dataset\n\nThe ELSMOR project built a virtual dataset of a PWR SMR to function as the basis of the safety analysis simulations performed in the project. This dataset will also be available to other researchers outside the project and the workshop will go through the dataset\, showcase it’s usability and allow for discussion on further usage and development. \n\n\nExperimental facilities on passive safety systems\n\n  Presentations and discussion on the plate heat exchanger test rig built at SIET for analysing the passive safety systems of SMRs.\n\n\nModelling of passive safety systems\n\n Presentations and discussion on the modelling work performed on the passive safety systems of a LW-SMR\, the challenges found while performing the work\, the implications of the results and the basis these create for further safety analysis work. \n\n\n\nWorkshop on TANDEM\n\nTBA\n\n\n\nFor more information\, click here.
