On 28 April 2025, Merja Airola, Senior Scientist at TANDEM partner VTT, participated in a panel discussion on stakeholders involvement in new nuclear projects, as part of an event on policy and siting strategies for new nuclear, co-organised by nucleareurope and the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

In her intervention, she stressed the importance of public acceptance for new nuclear projects, and shared stakeholder engagement best practices from the TANDEM project. Drawing on her experiences of organising resident events on nuclear sites, she highlighted the need to build trust between all stakeholders during and after the siting process.

The panel, moderated by Jessica Johnson, Communications and Advocacy Director at TANDEM partner nucleareurope, allowed to explore the benefits of constructive and inclusive dialogue involving industry, policy makers, and the civil society.
