On 10 and 11 April 2025, project partner ASNR – Autorité de sûreté nucléaire et de radioprotection organised a workshop for TANDEM project partners in Fontenay-aux Roses, France to discuss safety aspects relating to the integration of SMRs within hybrid energy systems.

During the workshop, participants discussed the work undertaken in relation to the studies of Anticipated Operational Occurrences and Design-Basis Accident (DBA) relating to SMR cogeneration. With regards to the assessment of evaluation methods and tools, the capabilities of system codes and coupling to Modelica were presented. A presentation was also given in relation to the ATHLET simulator using ATLAS for visualisation purposes. The main outcomes for the analysis of hybridisation transients simulated by Gesellschaft für Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit gGmbH, CEA, Università di Pisa, and Energorisk in TANDEM/WP4 were also highlighted.

At the end of the workshop, participants discussed areas requiring further improvement as well as policy recommendations in relation to licensing aspects.
