TANDEM Summer School & Cadarache Technical Workshop materials now available!
2024 has been a busy year for the TANDEM project, with the organisation of a Summer School In Italy in June and a Technical Workshop in France in September.
During the Summer School, students had the opportunity of deepening their knowledge on the potential role that hybrid energy systems which include nuclear will play in the ongoing energy transition. In this context, participants explored the various topics including safety and techno-economic challenges associated with the integration of nuclear power plants into applications which go beyond conventional electricity generation. Participants were provided with
- An extensive overview of the advantages and challenges relating to concepts of nuclear reactors which produce commodities other than power
- Training in the use of tools and methodologies essential for designing and simulating the operation of hybrid nuclear energy systems
- The quantitative skills necessary for assessing the impact of these systems within different contexts, ranging from a local scale to the global decarbonisation of the energy system.
The Technical Workshop focused on the description of non-electric SMR applications, such as district heating, hydrogen production, sea water desalination and synthetic fuel production. It also covered the coupling of SMRs with other energy sources and energy storage systems in hybrid energy systems.
All the presentations given during these two events are now available for download! Check out this page under the section ‘TANDEM EVENTS AND LEARNING MATERIAL’ to download the presentations, here.
